IV Therapy for Nausea & Stomach Bugs

When your stomach rejects everything, drinking your way back to feeling normal is not an option. Ivology brings IV fluids and anti-nausea support to your home or hotel in Miami and Tampa, administered by a licensed registered nurse.

Nausea has many causes, and some of them need a doctor. This page covers when a mobile IV is reasonable, which drips include anti-nausea medication, and the signs that mean you should seek medical care.

When an IV may help

A stomach bug or food poisoning

Vomiting or diarrhea has left you drained, and every sip of water comes back up.

Nausea with a headache or hangover

Your stomach is the thing stopping you from rehydrating and taking anything by mouth.

The day after

The worst is over but you are weak and behind on fluids, and you want to recover faster.

Drips people choose for this

Hangover IV

Despite the name, this is our main drip for an upset stomach of any cause. The Protocol and Signature tiers include ondansetron, an anti-nausea medication, when your nurse judges it clinically appropriate, alongside fluids, magnesium and B vitamins.

Headache Relief IV

The better fit when nausea comes with a headache or migraine. It also includes ondansetron at the Protocol and Signature tiers, with a high dose of magnesium.

Recovery IV

For the day after, once the nausea has settled: fluids with vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, amino acids and glutathione.

Why an IV helps when you cannot drink

Vomiting and diarrhea take fluid and electrolytes out faster than you can replace them, and nausea makes drinking feel impossible. That is how a stomach bug turns into dehydration. IV fluids go straight into the bloodstream, so they work regardless of what your stomach is doing.

Ondansetron is a prescription anti-nausea medication widely used in hospitals and clinics. It is included in the Protocol and Signature tiers of our Hangover and Headache Relief drips, and your nurse decides whether it is appropriate for you after reviewing your history and medications. The Essential tier of each drip does not include it.

What to expect

Your nurse will ask when the symptoms started, how often you have been sick, whether anyone around you has the same thing, and what you have eaten and taken. They will check your temperature, blood pressure and pulse. Some of those answers may lead them to recommend a doctor instead.

If you are cleared, the drip takes 45 to 60 minutes. Afterward, start with small sips of water or an electrolyte drink and bland food as your stomach allows.

A note on pregnancy

Nausea in pregnancy should be managed with your obstetric provider. Please speak with them before booking. Severe vomiting in pregnancy, where you cannot keep fluids down or are losing weight, needs medical evaluation.

When nausea needs urgent care

Call 911 or go to an emergency room, and do not book an IV, if you have:

Mobile IV therapy is an elective wellness service. It is not emergency care and does not diagnose or treat any medical condition.

Nausea & Stomach Bugs: Frequently Asked Questions

Which drip has anti-nausea medication?

The Protocol and Signature tiers of the Hangover IV and the Headache Relief IV include ondansetron when your nurse judges it clinically appropriate. The Essential tiers do not.

Can you help with food poisoning?

For mild to moderate symptoms, IV fluids and anti-nausea support can help you rehydrate and feel better. Bloody stools, a high fever, severe pain or symptoms lasting more than two days need a doctor.

How soon will the nausea ease?

It varies. Many people feel their stomach settle during or shortly after the drip. Your nurse stays with you throughout.

Is it safe for the nurse to come if I have a stomach bug?

Yes. Tell us your symptoms when you book so your nurse knows what to expect.

Can I get an IV for morning sickness?

Please talk with your obstetric provider first. Nausea in pregnancy should be managed with their guidance.
