IV Therapy for Hangovers
A hangover is mostly dehydration, poor sleep and an irritated stomach arriving at the same time. Ivology brings IV fluids, vitamins and nausea support to your home, hotel, or rental in Miami and Tampa, so you can recover where you are.
No drip erases a hangover, and time is still part of the cure. Here is what an IV realistically helps with, which drips fit, and when the situation is more serious than a hangover.
When an IV may help
You are dried out
Alcohol makes you lose more fluid than you take in. A dry mouth, headache and dizziness when you stand are the usual signs.
Your stomach will not cooperate
When you cannot keep water down, fluids by IV bypass the problem, and an anti-nausea medication can settle things.
You have somewhere to be
A wedding, a flight, a meeting, or the second day of a bachelorette weekend, and you would rather not lose the morning.
Drips people choose for this
Hangover IV
Our drip for the morning after: IV fluids with magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin C. The Protocol and Signature tiers add ondansetron for nausea when clinically appropriate, and the Signature tier adds glutathione.
Recovery IV
A fuller blend with higher vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, an amino acid blend and glutathione. A good choice when the night out followed a long day in the sun or a hard workout.
Myers' Cocktail
The classic vitamin and mineral drip, for when you mostly want hydration and a broad set of nutrients without the anti-nausea component.
Why fluids help
Alcohol suppresses the hormone that tells your kidneys to hold on to water, so you lose fluid and electrolytes through the night. That loss is behind much of the headache, thirst and lightheadedness. An IV replaces fluid directly into the bloodstream, which is faster than drinking and does not depend on a stomach that may be refusing everything.
The other parts of a hangover, including disrupted sleep and the by-products of metabolizing alcohol, take time. Many clients feel noticeably better within an hour of a drip, but you should still plan to eat, rest and drink water afterward.
What to expect
A licensed registered nurse comes to you. They ask what and how much you drank, whether you have been sick, what medications you take, and check your vital signs. Be honest about all of it, including anything else you took. It changes what is safe.
Once you are cleared, the IV takes a moment to place and the drip runs for 45 to 60 minutes. You can stay in bed or on the couch. For groups, such as a bachelor or bachelorette party, we send more than one nurse so everyone is treated at the same time.
Booking tips
Weekend mornings are our busiest hours, especially during event weeks in Miami and around Gasparilla and game days in Tampa. If you already know you have a big night coming, book the morning after in advance.
When it is not just a hangover
Alcohol poisoning is a medical emergency. Call 911, and do not book an IV, if someone:
- Cannot be woken, or keeps passing out
- Is breathing slowly or irregularly
- Is confused, having a seizure, or has cold, clammy or bluish skin
- Has been vomiting repeatedly and cannot stop, or is vomiting blood
- Has chest pain or a severe headache unlike a normal hangover
- Mixed alcohol with other drugs or medications
Mobile IV therapy is an elective wellness service. It is not emergency care and does not diagnose or treat any medical condition.
Hangovers: Frequently Asked Questions
How fast does a hangover IV work?
Many people start to feel better during the drip or within an hour of finishing. How much better depends on how dehydrated you were and how much of your hangover is down to things fluids do not fix, like lack of sleep.
What is in the Hangover IV?
IV fluids, vitamin C, vitamin B12, B-complex and magnesium. The Protocol and Signature tiers add ondansetron for nausea when clinically appropriate, and Signature adds glutathione. Amounts for each tier are on the Hangover IV page.
Can I get one before drinking to prevent a hangover?
Being well hydrated beforehand does no harm, but an IV will not prevent a hangover. The most reliable prevention is drinking less, eating first, and alternating with water.
Can you treat a whole group?
Yes. We schedule several nurses for groups so people are treated together. Contact us ahead of time with your group size and address.
Do you come to hotels?
Yes. Give us the hotel name and room number when you book and let the front desk know a nurse is visiting.
